OUT! Surprise Liverpool Exit After Premier League Triumph

Has been placed on the exit list following the conclusion of the 2024–25 season

Fresh from securing a 20th English league crown

According to The Athletic, Caoimhín Kelleher, the 26-year-old Irish goalkeeper and long-time understudy to Alisson Becke

A Changing Goalkeeping Guard

Kelleher, a Merseyside academy graduate promoted to the first team by Jürgen Klopp in 2019, made a number of cup and Premier League appearances when called upon.

However, Liverpool’s acquisition of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia—reportedly for €30 million last summer and immediately loaned back to La Liga—has all but sealed Kelleher’s fate.

With reduced prospects for game time and Mamardashvili poised to take over as Alisson’s primary deputy in 2025–26, Kelleher is understood to be seeking regular first-team football elsewhere.

Career to Date

  • Youth Progression: Joined Liverpool academy at under-9 level

  • First-Team Breakthrough: Promoted in 2019, earning praise for composure and shot-stopping during cup runs

  • Appearances: 20 official outings, including FA Cup and League Cup matches

  • Honours: Two Premier League titles, League Cup and FA Cup medals as squad member

“Caoimhín has served Liverpool with professionalism and dedication. We wish him well,” commented a club insider, acknowledging his contributions during Klopp’s tenure.

Klopp’s Farewell Message

In his congratulatory Instagram post following the title victory, Jürgen Klopp—now on sabbatical after handing over to Arne Slot—paid tribute to both past and present:

“Super-grateful for the past, super, super-happy for the present and extremely positive about the future!”

This endorsement underscores Liverpool’s forward-looking strategy under Slot, who has wasted no time reshaping the squad for continued success.

Where Next for Kelleher?

Several Championship and lower-mid Premier League clubs have reportedly enquired about Kelleher’s availability, drawn by his pedigree and familiarity with modern, pressing-style goalkeeping.

His next move is expected to be a permanent transfer rather than a loan, as he seeks to establish himself as a clear first-choice number one.
