Tuchel Wants England to Match Premier League’s Physicality
Tuchel Aims to Bring Premier League Intensity to England’s National Team
England should embrace the attributes that make their domestic league one of the strongest in the world
Tuchel, the third foreign coach in England’s history, is under pressure to secure the nation’s first major international trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
Following back-to-back defeats in the European Championship finals and early exits in recent World Cups, the English FA is banking on Tuchel’s track record of success.
Tuchel’s Vision for England’s Playing Style
Having won major titles with Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, Tuchel is looking to infuse England’s squad.
With the intensity and directness seen in the Premier League rather than adopting a continental approach.
“The Premier League is a physically demanding league, very direct, and we must be brave enough to play the same way as a national team. We shouldn’t try to copy other nations’ styles too much,” Tuchel stated after announcing his first squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
“England’s playing style should reflect the values of the country and the strongest league in the world. We must increase our game’s pace and intensity compared to recent matches.”

Time Constraints and Immediate Impact
With his contract running until the end of the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel understands the urgency of making an immediate impact.
England is expected to qualify comfortably from a group that includes Serbia and Andorra, but Tuchel is aware of the limited time he has to implement his ideas.
“We have reached consecutive semifinals and finals, and the feeling is that we are just a small step away from crossing the finish line,” Tuchel added.
“If we want to be ready for the next final and take that final step, we must start now in our first training camp. We only have six camps and roughly 60 days together before the World Cup. Every day counts.”
Squad Selections and Leadership Decisions
Tuchel’s first England squad includes recalls for Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson.
Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Ben White, who had been absent since the 2022 World Cup, remains out due to lack of match fitness.
The German tactician also confirmed that Harry Kane, whom he managed at Bayern Munich, will continue as England’s captain as they build towards the World Cup.
