Ruben Amorim Fears He Won’t Get Arteta’s Time
Amorim sees Arteta’s Arsenal rebuild as a model
Manchester United fans plan protests against the Glazers’ ownership
Injury concerns add further challenges to United’s upcoming fixtures
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal rebuild as a model.
But doubts he will be given the same amount of time to turn things around at Old Trafford.
United, currently 14th in the Premier League with 33 points, face Arsenal on Sunday.
Arteta’s team sits second with 54 points and is on the brink of the Champions League quarter-finals after a dominant 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven.
Comparing Arteta’s Journey with Amorim’s Challenge
Arteta took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, guiding them to an FA Cup win in his first season.
However, he faced significant pressure in the following campaigns, finishing eighth twice before improving the club’s standing.
His method included offloading players like Mesut Özil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to reshape the squad.
Similarly, Amorim has already started making difficult decisions at United.
Marcus Rashford has been loaned to Aston Villa due to what Amorim described as “training reasons,” and more squad changes are expected in the summer.
When asked whether he saw parallels between his task and Arteta’s early days.
Amorim responded: “I don’t feel that. I will not have the time Arteta had – I feel that. It’s a different club. We just need to survive with the players available on Sunday.”
Fan Protests Against the Glazers’ Ownership
Ahead of the Arsenal clash, United supporters are planning a protest against the Glazers.
Fans will march from the Tollgate pub to Old Trafford, dressed in black to symbolize their frustration with the club’s decline.
Amorim understands the frustration but insists his priority is improving the team.
“For everyone in the club, it’s a tough moment. The only thing we can do is perform well and win. People have the right to protest, and it’s important that their voices are heard,” he said.
Injury Concerns Ahead of Key Matches
United’s squad is struggling with injuries. Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte missed Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League draw against Real Sociedad.
Amorim remains uncertain about their availability for Sunday’s fixture.
“Maguire’s situation requires caution. We need to survive Sunday. The team was exhausted in the last 20 minutes against Sociedad. We must prepare carefully,” he stated.
On a positive note, Amad Diallo may return for the season’s final month after an ankle ligament injury.
Lisandro Martínez remains sidelined for the rest of the campaign.
After facing Arsenal, United will host Real Sociedad for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie, a crucial fixture for their season ambitions.
