Arne Slot Dismisses Luck Claims as Liverpool Extend Lead
Liverpool’s success is built on hard work, not luck
Liverpool’s injury management gives them an advantage
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has dismissed suggestions that luck has played a role in his side’s dominance this season.
Drawing inspiration from basketball legend Michael Jordan, Slot emphasised that hard work is behind Liverpool’s results.
“The harder you work, the more luck you have,” Slot stated after Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.
The Reds, despite being outplayed for large parts of the game, capitalised on a late Harvey Elliott goal to secure victory.
Injuries and Rivals’ Struggles – A Key Factor?
Some rival fans claim Liverpool’s success is down to their good fortune with injuries, especially with Arsenal and Manchester City facing key absences.
Arsenal, who have finished second in the past two seasons, are without forwards Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have missed midfield star Rodri for most of the campaign.
Liverpool have capitalised, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to 13 points.
A win against Southampton on Saturday could see them move 16 points clear before Arsenal play their two games in hand.
However, Slot dismissed the notion that Liverpool have simply been lucky with injuries.
“If injuries were purely down to luck, then yes, you could say we’ve been fortunate. But we believe in a structured approach to prevent them.”

Liverpool’s Approach to Injury Prevention
Slot highlighted Liverpool’s professional approach as a key reason for their relative fitness this season.
“Our players are top professionals, doing everything to stay fit. Our facilities and staff are excellent, and that makes a difference.”
He also pointed out that Liverpool have had their fair share of injuries.
“Diogo Jota was out for months, Alisson has missed weeks, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined, and Joe Gomez is now out for three months. Every team faces injuries; it’s about managing them effectively.”
Liverpool Focused on Sustained Success
Slot believes the true test of Liverpool’s approach will be seen over multiple seasons.
“If we can maintain this for years, it’s not just luck – it’s quality. No team can go through a season without injuries, but minimising them is key to success.”
With Liverpool marching towards another league title, Slot’s philosophy of hard work over luck is proving to be a winning formula.
